Edward Plaisance Jr Aug 7, 2013:
comments... In general "no unauthorized entry" is used where security or safety is an issue.

"no unauthorized entry" is most commonly used without any particular explanation...however, it can be used in all sorts of locations: medical facilities/military bases/police stations/electrical and mechanical rooms/laboratories/factories/computer rooms/etc.

It can be seen on doors/gates/fences/posts.

It basically means that "If you do not have authorization to be here, do not enter"...and obviously if you don't know whether you have authorization or not, you are not authorized.

You could use it with "staff room" if you wanted to...but more probably you would just use "staff only" if you wanted to keep other people out.

It is still not clear for me exactly what the intent of the sign in Persian is, so it is difficult to find the best equivalent.

Mitra Mousavi Aug 6, 2013:
no unauthorized entry
Staff room
Zeynab Tajik Aug 6, 2013:
Mitra Mousavi Aug 6, 2013:
Zeynab Tajik Aug 6, 2013:
The sign does not necessarily appear on doors of staff rooms. I, too, agree with 'No Unauthorized Entry/Access'.
Mitra Mousavi Aug 6, 2013:
To Ed Good suggestion! It think it is better to say:"Staff room, no unauthorized entry".
Edward Plaisance Jr Aug 6, 2013:
another common sign... No Unauthorized Entry/Access

...this sign is very common...see http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&site=imghp&tbm=isch&sourc...

Hosein H Aug 6, 2013:
how about "No Entry, unless permitted/allowed".
Zeynab Tajik Aug 6, 2013:
Yes, they never do :)
Edward Plaisance Jr Aug 5, 2013:
hmmm.... If that is the case, then we would use something like your suggestion...or something like: "Please obtain permission before entering"

Of course, these signs never tell you how to get permission :)
Zeynab Tajik Aug 5, 2013:
To the best of my knowledge, this appears on doors of rooms, usually security rooms, entrance to which needs permission.
Edward Plaisance Jr Aug 5, 2013:
question... perhaps it would be useful to clarify exactly what it means in Persian and how and when it is used...the English phrase I suggested is quite clear and its usage is clearly limited
Zeynab Tajik Aug 5, 2013:
I don't think my suggestion is a literal translation. I believe that the other suggestions are not so close to what you have asked. Rather, they are closer to And it is different from entering a certain room without permission.

Pre-arranged visits only/ make arrangements first

Or probably: Not a Drop-in Office / Place , etc. drop in: a drop-in place is a place offering a service or support where you can go without having to make arrangements first.

But I prefer the first choice as I think it sounds more natural and more widely used in English in such contexts

Thanks for your suggestion. It seems cool to me

Thanks. Isn't that literal translation?

visits by appointment only

I think this is what you are looking for

You can certainly use it.

I just a quick Google search on both and "pre-arranged appointments only" had about one-half the number of hits of "visits by appointment only".

But, in particular, I think you will see more signs/notices/announcements/etc using "visits by appointment only"

Type above..."I just did a quick..."
Note from asker:
thank You for your reply. How about pre-arranged appointments only? I reckon it's more suitable. any further help?
