AS you give it, and as it was in the film, it doesn´t really mean anything.
It´s a bit of a long story. The original is "Uva uvam videndo varia fit", which translates roughly as "a grape ripens when it sees another grape". What exactly the old poet Juvenal meant by that I am not sure. Maybe that living in isolation is no way to live.
The first change was "videndo" to "vivendo". Then it doesn´t really mean anything. Since then it has been often quoted, and has changes further.
