Japanese term

S映像端子

Japanese to English Tech/Engineering Electronics / Elect Eng
From a user interface evaluation report on a TV.
Screen shot:

ビデオ1出力の設定
接続機器設定
オートS映像(S映像端子の入力を優先する)

I found a description in Japanese of what a S映像端子 is:
http://kw.allabout.co.jp/glossary/g_digital/w000089.htm

I am just not sure what this should be in English, because I didn't find many matches on Google for "separate imaging" or "separate image" or "s-image", etc.

Thank you.

To Kathy No problem, Kathy... I thought at first it could be that too.

S-Video Connector/Socket

Actually, I agree with Kathy and think that S映像 and Sビデオ are the same thing, just a matter of preferring to use existing Japanese words or katakana for new jargons.

Anyway if Sony says it's the same thing I'll go with them:

I believe 端子 can mean either the cable pin or the socket, so it really depends on the context.

agree Kurt Hammond : Agree. S-Video connection or connector, not socket.

Actually, if I could, I'd lower my conf. level from 2 to 1.
S-ビデオ and S-映像 terminals seem to be 2 different things. (Duh!)
However, I won't hide this answer because sometimes wrong answers help the Asker to make a more informed decision... (-:
Peer comment(s):

neutral Maynard Hogg : As a North American, I prefer "jack" to 直訳っぽい "terminal", but why not finesse the issue with "S video input"?

Thanks for your input (-:
agree asphodel : I agree with "S-video", as I've mentioned in my suggestion.

Thanks for the confirmation.
neutral Kurt Hammond : Agree with maynard. "Terminal" does not mean "connector"

neutral Derek Newpor (X) : Once again not even the Japanese in the e-mail could be read (mojibake), so I cannot contribute this time.

Derek - You seem to be having a lot of encoding problems. Hopefully this may help - please see: http://www.proz.com/post/302037

S-imaging terminal

映像端子=Imaging Terminal
Peer comment(s):

disagree Maynard Hogg : "image signal" maybe. But consumers seem to prefer "video".

disagree Kurt Hammond : The only correct translation is S-Video
