Discussion

Fiona Grace Peterson Nov 25, 2015:
@Phil " I don't understand why they still appear in the name of the professional body even though they've been abolished" - good question!!! But trust me, the quickest way to annoy an Italian nurse is to call them an "infermiere professionale" - that title went out in 1999.
Fiona Grace Peterson Nov 25, 2015:
@Kate I agree the colleges are provincial, however they ARE still IPASVI colleges, so I would put "IPASVI College of (name of province)".

Kate Chaffer Nov 25, 2015:
Good point... ...although I think you are talking about the "Federazione Nazionale dei Collegi Ipasvi". The individual colleges appear to be provincial. I think Nursing Colleges sounds like schools where you study nursing, but this is a professional register, so maybe something like "(Provincial) College of Nurses"?
Fiona Grace Peterson Nov 25, 2015:
You should translate the title as a whole. Please see my previous KudoZ answer:

"Infermiere professionale" no longer exists either - nurses here are now simply "infermieri". I would translate the title as "Italian Federation of Nursing Colleges".

paediatric nurse / children's nurse

Definitely more than just a childminder!

agree Fiona Grace Peterson : Agree!! See this link for info: http://www.sisip.it/index.php?option=com_content&view=articl... While Kate is 100% right, this is NOT how the term should be translated in your context. Please see my discussion answer.

agree philgoddard : Your reference says that vigilatrici are a subset of pediatric nurses.//Yes, you're quite right. I don't understand why they still appear in the name of the professional body even though they've been abolished.

No. They're two different ways of describing the same thing, as explained in Fiona's reference.
agree Wendy Streitparth : Yes, I'd go with paediatric nurse.

neutral philgoddard : This used to be the case, but the profession was merged with pediatric nursing in the 1990s according to Wikipedia.
