A "cap" would be a very neutral term.
The brand new Langenscheidt Fachwörterbuch Technik und angewandte Wissenschaften calls a Verschlussdeckel a 'cap' also.

If it's Verschlußdeckel, and not Verschlüßdeckel you are looking for, I found the following definitions. I don't know if any of them would fit in your context.
