German term

Fertigspritze

German to English Medical Medical: Pharmaceuticals
"Die Lösung wurde anschließend in Fertigspritzen abgefüllt..."
My problem: as Fertigspritze is "pre-filled syringe" in English a direct translation of "the solution was filled into pre-filled syringes" sounds like a contradiction, any suggestions??
Change log

Feb 3, 2006 13:46: Steffen Walter changed "Term asked" from "help with Fertigspritze" to "Fertigspritze"

Discussion

Jonathan MacKerron (asker) Feb 3, 2006:
more context: these are actually empty syringes (i.e. obviously not pre-filled at the time of filling, but which the author calls Fertigspritze anyway) that are filled with contrast medium at the factory and then marketed as "pre-filled syringes"
Jonathan MacKerron (asker) Feb 3, 2006:
but "pre-filled syringes" cannot be changed, since the product is marketed as such
Jonathan MacKerron (asker) Feb 3, 2006:
"empty pre-filled syringes" sounds even worse

Re your second comment, how about:

"The syringes were then pre-filled with the solution"

thanks
agree Bjørn Anthun : Fertigspritze is definitely a ready-to-use/prefilled syringe - the fact that those may be disposable (Einwegfertigspritzen) is another aspect. IMO, your added note is the perfect solution.

If the syringe was really pre-filled, then something else can only be added.

Having read your new comment, I realise that the solution isn\'t anything extra but the actual filling for the syringe. Would \"put\" be too simple a word, to avoid using the word \"filled\"?
The solution is then put into the syringe, which is then sold as a pre-filled syringe.

rephrase

If you have to say pre-filled syringes (so can't fill the things) you could try something like
The solution is then packed as pre-filled syringes
assembled as / into pre-filled syringes
etc

Pre-prepared syringes

I'd say "Pre-prepared syringes" is closer to the point.
