German term

konsiliarisch beratend tätig sein

German to English Medical Medical: Health Care Krankenhauswesen

I need help for the expression. thanks.

a few sites on 'consult(ation)' #1 I bet every medical translator has heard of MDconsult site. If not, here it is http://www.mdconsult.com/php/395886375-196/home.html.

Lirka Jan 15, 2013:
I would not use "consulting/consultancy" because it can denote other areas as well, not solely medical consult(ation), which is what is meant by 'konsiliar'. 'Medical consulting/consultancy' could address financial matters, legal issues, etc.

Konsiliararzt Here, a definition in German (though you could have trusted me on my definition, I am a physician):

"Ein Konsiliararzt untersucht Patienten, die in einer Fachrichtung( z.B. Chirurgie) stationär liegen bei einer Fragestellung in seinem Fachgebiet (z.B. Psychiatrie), wenn er vom behandelnden Arzt dazu gerufen wird. Er untersucht, gibt seine Meinung ab, behandelt aber nicht den Patienten."

offers medical consult services

A Konsiliararzt is a doctor from a different department/specialty who consults another dept. For instance, a dermatologist is a consulting physician/doctor in the ENT department, for instance. In other words, when a patient on the ENT ward develops a rash ( as an example), a consulting dermatologist is called in.

Thanks a lot!
Peer comment(s):

neutral Steffen Walter : Either consultancy or consulting, but not consult. / Certainly not: when I search for "medical consult" (in inverted commas), I get a whole bunch of German websites first. Says it all, does it not? (same goes for "consult services").

I had "consulting" in my deleted answer, but realized that was not it. In medical context, it's either consult (US) or consultation (UK). Here, from Johns Hopkins (NOT a German institution, or is it?) http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/gim/training/Consulta
neutral Jonathan MacKerron : medical consultancy services
27 mins
Ah....talk to the folks at Johns Hopkins then...
neutral philgoddard : This is not good English, and it sounds odd.

Hi philgoddard...and I thought you'd agree :)
agree Michael Martin, MA : I am getting a lot of hits for "providing consult services" in the medical realm only ...so good job sticking by your guns!

Thank you, Michael! Also for the moral support :) I've translated a large volume of medical reports, and consult(ation) is the term I see most often.
neutral Cilian O'Tuama : why do serious people even respond?

neutral Lirka : not so much for the medical context;"medical consult(ation)" is an established term

consultation services are provided

Examples from links below:
1. "Fellows will provide consultation services to all clinical departments within UHB and will see a wide variety of pathology."
2. "Psychiatric consultation services are provided to patients of all ages and to all clinical departments. "

Or:
"Clinic for X provides consulting services to all clinical departments"

I also thought of "serves in advisory capacity to/for" but that sounds a bit stiff in a sentence..
