German term

rechtsführend

German to English Medical Medical: Cardiology
Discharge report.

"Bei Aufnahme zeigte sich ein rechtsführend dekompensierter Patient mit bds Beinoedeme.

How would we phrase it in nice English?

"On admission, the patient presented with a decompensated right heart failure and bilateral lower extremity edema" is the best I can come up with at the moment. But I don't quite like it. It does not capture the "führend" part....

Any better suggestions?

... patient presents with predominantly right-sided decompensation

Whereas the combination of infarction and hypertension commonly leads to left-sided failure, an occasional patient with allergic angiitis and granulornatosis will present with predominantly right-sided decompensation

Once the full-blown pattern of venous engorgement, hepatic congestion, and peripheral edema dominates the clinical picture,
no substantial difficulty is encountered in the recognition of right-sided decompensation.

An extensive physical examination showed there to be circulatory problems, with right-sided decompensation.

predominant right ventricular (heart) failure

*führend* means 'predominant' here.

In this circumstance, the right ventricle of the donor heart is unable to overcome the afterload imposed by the elevated pulmonary vascular resistance, and selective or *predominant right ventricular failure* ensues.
