From a letter of reference:
"Er verhielt sich jederzeit loyal gegenüber der Firma und überzeugte durch seine persönliche Integrität. Von Vorgesetzten und Kollegen wurde er gleichermaßen geschätzt."
I found one similar KudoZ entry where "admired" was suggested, but I'm not completely happy with that here. I also wondered about "was valued for his personal integrity", but "valued" also seems to be the best translation for "geschätzt" in the following sentence. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you.

You are looking to express the fact that he did not only display a high level of integrity on an occasional basis. Instead, this was a consistent behavior that 'convinced' others that this was a quality that could be counted on.
"....and consistently displayed a high level of personal integrity."

to prove oneself - to show (oneself) to have the character or ability expected of one, especially through one's actions.
Therefore:
We were all convinced (at the time) because he was such a plausible character.
