I have to make distinctions between Konserven, Dauerkonserven and Halbkonserven. Normally, I'd translate Fischkonserven as 'canned fish', but is anyone familiar with varying degrees of canning?
Fleisch-, Wurst- und Fischkonserven, Marinaden, Konservenfertiggerichte
Fisch-Dauerkonserven
Thunfisch
Krebs-, Schalen- und Weichtiere (Dauerkonserven)
Fisch-Halbkonserven
Teigwaren und Reis-Fertiggerichte als Konserven

"KONSERVEN allgem. [Konservendose, Halbkonserve, Vollkonserve]:
Es gibt 2 Konservierungsmethoden: 1.HALBKONSERVE: Haltbarkeit bis 6 Monate im Kühlschrank. (Z.B. (Z.B. Fleischkonserven, Fleischgerichte, Gerichte mit Fleisch). Sie wird mit über 110 C° bearbeitet. Alle Bakterien und Sporen werden abgetötet. GENERELL: Beide sind durch dicht verschl. Behälter (Dosen, Gläser...) haltbar gemacht.

Semi-perishable food " means any food for which a significant risk of spoilage, loss of value, or loss of palatability occurs only after a minimum of 60 days, but within 6 months, after the date of packaging."
Long shelf-life food " means any food for which a significant risk of spoilage, loss of value, or loss of palatability does not occur sooner than 6 months after the date of packaging, including foods preserved by freezing, dehydrating, or being placed in a hermetically sealed container."

preserved food/long-life food, canned/packaged food
when talking about teichwaren and rice as konserven, we are dealing with packages here, without being in the store, I can't visualize canned bread.
Some canned items have a longer shelf-life than others, is that where the dstinction between dauer and halb konserven is made? Konserven perhaps dry goods in a package?
I am talking here as a housewife and someone who dealt with canned fish, fruit and vegetables (sometimes in glass) for a short while. Perhaps it makes a difference in what type of medium the fish is canned, i.e. oil, water, etc.
