German term

Beteiligungsansatz

German to English Bus/Financial Finance (general)
Hi All, I have lost count of the times I’ve tried to access this entry in the unedited glossaries -- the blankety-blank page will not load, and my deadline is looming. So I must pose the question again -- sorry...

This is for a "Lagebericht" for an Austrian "Konzern"
Context:

I’ll have to describe it as merely the "increase in the participation in the XYZ Group" if I can’t find the exact term.

Thanks in advance,
Beth

stake

is a passive investment (less than 50% of outstanding shares). Companies often take a 'stake' in other, smaller companies for 'investment purposes only'.

Sentence: Cash on hand and negotiable securities increased from 21 million to 104 million, with a capital injection of 35 million and the acquisition of an additional stake in xyz group (net gain of 49.6 million) having a material impact on the result.

3 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thank you ALL very much for the generous loan of your time and expertise. I don’t know why that particular page (still(grrr)) won’t load But thanks to Kim (anyway!) and Klaus for providing that page‘s info as a guide.) Yes, I think you’re right – "stake" (as well as "interest") work best in the style and context of the document and I have made the appropriate changes as well as retained your comments and input for future reference. Thanks again! BJ "

target price estimates

Collin McKinney
It's true that the word valuation is used to speak of the price of a stock. However, here the talk, I believe, is of estimates and when analysts produce estimates they would say they are revising the target price for a stock downwards to 34 euros for the end of financial year 2001. This means they believe the stock will be trading at 34 euros at that time.

balance sheet valuation

I think this is about the valuation that the group (Konzern)places on its subsidiaries in its balance sheet. ".... the Management Board reduced the balance sheet valuation of several subsidiaries in the fourth quarter."

To substantiate this, Schroeder gives "valuation" as one of the meanings of "Ansatz",

equity holding / stake

It looks as if the writer simply means Beteiligung, but stuck -ansatz on the end to make it sound more impressive (never use 4 syllables where 6 will do).

carrying amount of the investment

Just back on the last flight from Berlin, straight into a thunderstorm. Anyway, the point here is the "Ansatz", i.e. the carrying amount of the investment - that's what's been increased.
