German term

Besserungskapital

German to English Bus/Financial Finance (general)
The sentence goes: "Weiters sind Erläuterungen zu Garantieerklärungen, Patronatserklärungen, Gewährungen von Besserungskapital oder Ähnlichem zu machen..." and is part of an annual report.

See http://www.denk-ferdin.at/ABCderBetriebsausgaben.htm
for a definition of the German term.
I believe "additional capital", as found when googled, isn't enough to express the term's meaning.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thank you!
Proposed translations (English)

2 Capital appreciation bond

Discussion

wfarkas (X) Mar 23, 2008:
Is the term you are looking to translate in the annual report of a financial institution or some other commercial/business enterprise ?
wfarkas (X) Mar 23, 2008:
In my opinion, you it would be more appropriate to look at the phrase 'Gewährungen von Besserungskapital' (equity injection guarantees) rather than the term 'Besserungskapital' alone.

recapitalization

The term 'Besserungskapital' is used here in the context of the emergency support provided by the Republic of Austria and other financial industry participants to BAWAG P.S.K., an Austrian bank, which came close to financial collapse.

equity boost

I think this is a term used specifically in Austria. You may consider placing the term in quotation marks, like in the link you found (http://www.bawagpsk.com/__Contentpool/UeberUns/Presse/Presse... )

From what I'm reading, this isn't really a subsidy, nor is it clear whether its' some kind of mezzanine financing. You might just call it an "equity boost".

Example:

Venture capital firms target RemitDATA with $5 million equity boost

Capital appreciation bond

I feel this term concerns "capital appreciation bond". You may find its definition in http://www.ncga.state.nc.us/EnactedLegislation/Statutes/PDF/...
Peer comment(s):

neutral Adrian MM. (X) : Not the same as a Besserungsschein in Germany.
