stuck on "Bestandsentscheidung"....
it's actually a word bankers that I teach regularly use, but also used in the following context:
"Relevant für die Modellierung von Raumwärme und Mobilität sind:
Bestands-Stromgrößen-Beziehungen: In den Bereichen Raumwärme und Verkehr
bestehen zwischen Energieflüssen und Realkapital in Bezug auf die nach der Theorie der
Haushaltsproduktionsfunktion relevanten Energiedienstleistungen
Substitutionsbeziehungen. Im Gegensatz zu den neoklassischen
Haushaltsproduktionsfunktionen sind in einem Modell nachhaltiger Konsumstrukturen
sowohl die Bestandsentscheidung als auch die Dienstleistungsnachfrage durch eine Fülle
von ökonomischen und nicht-ökonomischen Faktoren und nicht nur durch relative Preise
bestimmt."
Is it something like a 'processing decision'? Or does it have to do more with portfolios and assets and ascertaining their worth?

I believe this is what is known as "equipment stock" (see http://www.southface.org/web/resources&services/publications... Also known as "capital stock" (which is used quite often as a translation for "Bestand" in this context. See http://www.wifo.ac.at/wwa/jsp/index.jsp?typeid=8&display_mod...
In the case of "Raumwärme" ("space heating" BTW), this equipment stock would take the form of radiators or even building insulation. If we're talking about mobility, then it would probably be a car.
The various models/theories attempt to explain, among other things, the complex relationship between the demand for energy/services and the equipment stock. That's also where the "Substitutionsbeziehungen" come in. If, for example, all cars were 20% more fuel efficient from tomorrow, I might not automatically use less fuel but might instead buy a bigger car. That would be a "Bestandsentscheidung". Or my "Bestandsentscheidung" might be influenced by non-economic factors, such as the fact that my next door neighbour has a more in-your-face car than I do so I want one as well.
I reckon "Realkapital" is a synonym for "Bestand" in your text.
