German term

Konfigurator

German to English Bus/Financial Construction / Civil Engineering hardware market portal
This appears from a list, possibly of people who might want to use a hardware industry ordering portal. Others on the list are: "Bauherren, Architekten, Planer".

Sorry about the lack of context; I am dealing with one of those files extracted from a PPT file by some outlandish software.

Non-ProZ.com Feb 14, 2005:
to andrewd Thanks for the suggestion. I really have no idea. I don't even know why this particular file is so important. The client is complaining to a computer company that their software doesn't work properly. Why they need to give a complete overview of their business I can't imagine. They're not the only ones with software problems, anyway.
Andrew D Feb 14, 2005:
all references give Konfigurater in an IT- or Product-configuring kontext, might it be a different -seldom used- equivalent of Projektsteurer? btw don't let him see your comment below;-) greetings
Non-ProZ.com Feb 14, 2005:
Thanks. I misclicked and entered this grading before I said "thanks". So thanks! Thanks to JC too.

Building hardware There wouldn't be a problem with computer hardware--I'm a former programmer. You won't find many "Bauherren" in the computer industry either! Cheers, Richard.

Would it be Computer hardware or building hardware?

specifier

Really a wild guess, but
a.) Konfigurator sounds like other translations for specifier I've found in the KudoZ glossaries,
b.) it's sort of missing from the list and
c.) that's what immediately came to mind.

I think c.) is the least important argument, by a long shot.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "That's a "long chalk", Klaus. Your whole answer is a long shot, but I'm desperate. The project is urgent, and my TM software just stopped working, and so I'm cutting a few corners. I'll accept this answer and use it straight away!"

Maybe just the guy who buys stuff and makes it work together before selling it to the end customer?
