German term

Aufruf des Programm-Menüs

German to English Tech/Engineering Computers: Software Laborgeräte
I am wondering how I should translate sentences like this one, when it is a title or the title of an illustration in a user manual
I suggest: "Calling program menu"
Same thing with "Festlegung des Vakuums": sould I rather say "Vacuum setting" or "setting the vacuum"?

Run/´Start Program Menu

This language comes most likely out of a programmers manual and is not intended for the common folks like operators.
Aufruf refers typically to a program module, which in this case displays a menu.
Not too many hits in German or English. A number of years back we did a Bosch manual into English and it was full of this "Aufruf" this and that.

disagree Anil Kelkar : IMHO there are two steps involved here. The first is to actually call, invoke or select the menu and the second is to run it. I imagine they might use ausfuehren or something like that for the actually execution.

selecting the program menu

I'd always use e.g. "Boiling the kettle", if you follow my drift

Translating a manual (then say):

To translate a manual, take a look at a manual. Ideally a similar one. manual.

(not meant facetiously. It\'s something that only occured to me after a while, sometime back ;-)

Calling the Program Menu

I think you're right. If it is a heading at some level, then you might consider the caps as above.
