E.g., in real estate, the sales AGENT acts under the direction of his home office as BEAUFTRAGTER to sell real estate, but an OFFICER (usually a vice-president) of that real estate company is empowered as BEVOLLMÄCHTIGTER to speak for the company as an entity (e.g., to negotiate the takeover of another outfit).

Only a "Handlungsbevollmächtigter" can sign in the name of the company. You will find his name in the commercial register of the company. Another word is Prokurist=authorized signatory
