Since both long and short haul trucks in Germany commonly have cab over engine design and thus lack a "hood" or "bonnet" I am suggesting "service panel" here.
If the truck engine in the US is in front of the cab, the part covering the engine is the "hood"; if the configuration has the engine under the cab, as with Mercedes built Freightliner Argosy trucks in the US, a "service panel" is often located at the front of the cab for daily maintenance inspections, fluid fill and so on; a look at the Mercedes LKW Actros in Germany shows the "service panel" in this location described as Frontklappe: "Öl lässt sich bequem unter der Frontklappe nachfüllen, ebenfalls das Kühlwasser".
