French term

palette effondrée

French to English Tech/Engineering Transport / Transportation / Shipping emballages
Bonjour,

j'ai à traduire un quiz concernant les marchandises en soute d'un avion et je bloque sur la traduction de l'expression "palette effondrée" dans la question suivante :
On me livre une *palete éffondrée* à charger...
a) Je remets les cartons en place...
b) Je refuse la palette.
c) ...

Merci de votre aide.
Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): Graham macLachlan

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

thanks for your additional explanations
Vicky James Aug 5, 2008:
That's not quite what I meant, apologies if I was unclear. I meant that "collapsed pallet" also exists to describe a type of pallet that is DESIGNED to collapse (therefore this type of "collapsed pallet" would not be a damaged one).
Johannes Gleim Aug 5, 2008:
Once more: Collapsed pallets should be clearly distinghuished from collapsible pallets

typing error for: Collapsed pallets should clearly distinghished from collapsible pallets

Collapse pallet should clearly distinghished from collapsible pallets
Vicky James Aug 5, 2008:
Yes, as long as it's not confused with a "collapsible pallet" that has been deliberately "collapsed". This type of "collapsed pallet" seems to get a lot more ghits than the other type...

collapsed pallet

This is a damaged pallet.

effondrer = to collapse (Dictionnaire Généeral de la Technique Industrielle)

To prevent collapsed pallet collars stacked upon each other from mutual sliding at least the longitudinal walls 1, and possibly also the end walls 2, may be provided with intended or serrated areas, which preferably extend like stripes over the entire height dimension of the pallet collar.

Here again a collapsed pallet poses risk of damage to the load, transportation vehicle and anyone nearby.

burst palette

Actually, it's the shrink-wrap that bursts but that's what it's called.
Note from asker:
I can't find results on Google for your phrase. And palette in English is pallet, no ?!?
