Karen Tkaczyk Apr 12, 2007:
Aha, but Liz did you know I'm a Brit in the USA? Scottish, in fact. I think we sticklers have lost the fight against using adjectives as nouns in this sort of situation.
liz askew Apr 12, 2007:
For some reason, I am unable to vote, so for the sake of US-Brit relations, I give my vote to Karen....seems either term can be used. Diplomacy seems the best option here. Best wishes to everybody!

NO donors

NO is nitric oxide. You could use "NO donor compounds", of course if you want to be more faithful to the ST. Huge numbers of ghits on the subject.

Thank you.
disagree liz askew : NO donors has a different meaning to "NO donor compounds". Donors = people.

I think that donor is widely used in this context to mean donor compound, similarly to the way that 'active' is used as a noun instead of using 'active ingredient'.
agree Richard Benham : This is fine in the right context. NO is said to put lead in your pencil, too....

agree Richard Benham : Note that "compounds" in this sort of context is often understood. While this answer may be better, "NO donors" is fine.

Thank you. Perhaps this is the case for "those in the know", but I think it is best to be clear, and follow the original text, as it does say "composés"...
agree Eric BILLY : "NO donor compounds" is the best way to translate I think
