French term

clapet anti-souffle

French to English Tech/Engineering Mechanics / Mech Engineering Power plants
This appears in a list of components for a nuclear plant. It appears in a list of ventilation and filtration equipment. Not much to go on, I'm afraid. I'm wondering about just putting shut-off valves in the absence of furrther detail....

explosion cut-off valve

I suspect you need to keep the detail, i.e. they are talking about the souffle of an explosion (how topical ....) rather than merely that of the ventilation system.

Blast valves:
During a blast, hot gasses under extreme pressures can enter through the air vents. In order to attenuate this shock wave, a BLAST VALVE (also known as an EXPLOSION PROTECTION VALVE) must be placed into all AIR PIPES, VENTS and other penetrations to the shelter. Blast valves INSTANTLY SHUT OFF THE FLOW OF AIR WHEN A SHOCK WAVE ENTERS THE AIR VENT. This not only protects the other components of the ventilation system from damage, but prevents injury to shelter occupants

[this is the inverse of your NPP, presumably, being for a protective bunker]

Thanks
agree chris collister : Anti-blast valve? Where "blast valve" = "anti blast" valve.

Indeed. I noticed a number of "anti-blast" ghits too while searching.
Something went wrong...
4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks Alex - I'm sure you're right as usual. Souffle just seems such an innocuous little word to have blast/explosion connotations..."
