French term

la recherche du plaisir/le besoin de l'engagement

French to English Marketing
description of 2 types of materials used for jackets.The first has qualities of lightness, breatheability etc. and the second is a protective material against wind, rain, etc. I find the words "plaisir" and "engagement" difficult to translate here.

the search for pleasure/the need for performance

"engagement" - performance (i.e., the commitment to perform well as a protective material...)

Actually, I would translate \"plaisir\" as comfort rather than pleasure here
Peer comment(s):

agree PaulaMac (X) : Right - engagement can also mean involvement, so performance works well here

I don't especially see the connection to jackets, but advertising for the most prosaic things sometimes gets very phoolosophical.

agree Odette Grille (X) : the translation is right, the connection... is the DA's problem, I guess

comfort/style

Engagement doit plutôt être traduit par Style en anglais. C'est ce que suggère le contexte.

this may have little to do with jackets, but advertising lingo can get very phoolosophical

comfort & performance

Just adding my own vote to the tally. It looks to me like comfort (in the sense of "comfort food," for instance: a familiar pleasure) expresses the kind of "plaisir" you're looking for, and "performance" fits in the same paradigm as "engagement," where a product is concerned: they mean it will hold up over the long run.
Peer comment(s):

agree Nancy Bonnefond : yes that's it. I agree 200%
