registered letter
no need to specify because the person this letter is addressed has to sign it and he is the only one who can pick up this letter

: That's completely wrong. The registration concerns the date of sending, the actual receipt is proved by the acknowledgment of receipt.

registered mail OR letter with advice of delivery
I believe that is the 'official' term used in the UK.
'advice' of course means the same thing as 'acknowledgement', it is just the way it is usuually expressed.
And it IS important to specify that, since in France the fact that the sender holds a copy of the signed receipt (the 'advice' that is sent back to them) has legal significance; NOT ONLY has the letter to be signed for (but only La Poste knows that), BUT ALSO the sender receives official notification of this.

This is for the US. I believe "advice of delivery" is the British equivalent.

291 google hits for \"registered letter with acknowledgment of receipt\". I dont see why it matters what the ultraspecific US or UK version since the system doesn\'t correspond exactly anyway. The important thing is to be in clearly comprehensible international English.

It is \"Lettre Recommandée\", though, not \"Registrée\" (mea culpa)

: Regarding your 1st note: of course, it MAY not be important; but surely if standard terms exist that are materially equivalent, it is worth using them, AS LONG AS they will be comprehensible for the intended readership

You misunderstood: I'm saying 1) there is no one standard term for the US and the UK; 2) using either specific term would not be generally comprehensible; 3) the systems don't correspond exactly anyway; 4) the literal translation here is clearest and best
