French term

tunnel de dégelage

French to English Tech/Engineering Energy / Power Generation Gas-fired equipment
From a list of gas-fired equipment in a power plant:

Les gaz de four et de mine, seuls ou en mélange alimentent :
 les chaudières des tranches 4, 5 et 6 lors du démarrage et des phases transitoires,
 les turbines à gaz du groupe 5 (en mélange avec le gaz naturel) et le foyer de réchauffage du groupe 5,
 la chaudière DTPS,
 le sécheur à charbon et le sécheur de cendres,
 le tunnel de dégelage.

I can only think of defrost tunnel but I can't find any confirmation for this.

Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Many thanks

thawing tunnel

I've found many mentions of thawing and defrosting tunnels but they all have to do with the food industry...Below is a link to a diagram of a simplified power station, it might help you visualize what you're translating.

de-icing tunnel

I don't know terribly much about these, but I did find a reference to a 'de-icing' tunnel in the context of automotve climate control. Check out the link below (see page 3 of the document when you get there). Not sure if it would be the same term, but it could be...

Schlamms

Amongst other things, it appears that the Emile Huchet power plant (I imagine that is what you are dealing with) burns this stuff called "Schlamms" which is a mixture of coal and water from the coal washing plant, as someone has indicated. I assume this stuff is stored outdoors and freezes at some point in time, making it difficult if not impossible, if not to actually burn, then at least to inject into the furnace. "Thawing tunnel" would seem to be a likely candidate.

And I suppose the "décanteur" is related to the same process, so I suppose "coal settling tank" is a fair option too.

One lives and learns!
