Re previous KudoZ question NB that all three answers given then were correct, depending upon precise context. However, "core" is, perhaps, best retained for excavations where this section is left till last, rather than excavated first. Termium is confusing here, as it gives one method of excavation for the English term and the other method for the first French definition. However, the answer selected then was the most reliable.
