French term

parois murales

French to English Other Construction / Civil Engineering restaurants
Not quite sure what these are - "parois murales des espaces consommateurs et techniques"
Hope that's enough context...

It's about cleaning services offered.

wall surfaces

I think you'll find it is referring to the 'parois' (= surface) of the mur (concept of what is a wall)

It would help, though, to know just what the context actually has to say about them?

It could simply be 'partition walls' (i.e. the non-loadbearing dividing walls mentioned by J-L); however, I'd expect that to involve the term 'cloison'.

Right, so is this in fact talking about how to go about cleaning the wall surfaces, then? As I said, proper context would be a great help here... :-(

...or that the wall surfaces need to be cleaned?

Yes, but what is this brief text saying about them? Is it "we can clean your..."?

The point is, you clean the surface of something, hence if that is the way it is being used, you can use surface; however, if it was talking about demolishing them, or building them using bricks and mortar, then that would clearly change the meaning.

Right, thanks, Rachel, I think I get the idea now...
Note from asker:
Sorry, it's only a brief text, like a flyer - it's one of the cleaning services to restaurants offered by this firm
The idea is that they can clean them, in bullet point type things...
Thank you Tony + others :-)

Thanks, ACOZ! Yes, eepnding on the exact context, 'walls' is probably all we'd need to say in EN.

Although walls would probably be enough unless your context suggests otherwise.

Or non-bearing walls.

agree Evans (X) : Was about to post the same! Bit tautological, but I think I can see where they're coming from!

disagree Tony M : In EN, we'd say 'partition wall' — 'wall partition' would imply something that divides up a wall.

Thank you, Tony. You are right.
disagree B D Finch : As Tony says, it would be "partition wall", but that makes no sense in the context of cleaning services, as structural walls also need cleaning.//Even in a construction context, "parois murales" are wall surfaces, not partition walls.

Thank you, BD. The context provided was "Construction / Civil Engineering".// I disagree with you.
