I'm wondering if granularité here refers metaphorically to different-sized granules of varying size or scale, or if it may refer to grains as seeds or points of origin; or perhaps something different is meant. It's a very abstract book on philosophy in the IT age I'm translating. Interesting but heavy to digest.

Good luck! What on earth is a digital ecosystem?
I'd stick as close as possible to the French in a document such as this so as not to open the doors to interpretation too wide, given that it's very difficult to appreciate what they are driving at!
I imagine the readership that understands what is meant by "granularité" here will understand "grain sizes" : those are the words used in civil engineering to refer to the sizes of soil and rock particles. We used to talk about the grain of photos, in the silver nitride days, and as we have seen here repeatedly, one talks about "urban grain" meaning the different types of construction, their spacing, etc.

: Granularity is an IT term relating generally to databases. I'd say we're taking about, say, "multiple levels of detail."
