Yes, I think you have the correct idea with "confirmation," but I would prefer "verification," if applicable. See this example:
L’équipement multimédia du système de sécurité ajoute l’image au son. En cas d’alerte, le télésurveilleur effectue une levée de doute audio vidéo et procède à un contre-appel. Si le contre-appel n’est pas concluant, il déclenche l’intervention.
It is true that in order to confirm there was a problem, the person will verify it first. It's quite close, actually. "Verification and confirmation" may be even more precise.

In relation to monitored burglar alarms, "levée de doute" refers to when the monitoring people know for sure there is an intruder in the house (because they can see on video, because they can hear someone moving and no one responds to their calls to declare who they are, etc.) and it is not a false alarm. They then call the cops or the local security service.
