Same thing Hi all. The client finally answered and confirmed that "Data Privacy Officer" and "Data Protection Officer" were used interchangeably in the document and asked me to just use "DPO: Data Protection Officer / Data Privacy Officer". Thanks for all of your help.

DPrO in the following link, but ... a) this appears to be an internal abbreviation and I can't find any evidence of this usage elsewhere, and
b) it is probably not relevant in your case if you feel both abbreviations in your text refer to the same role

The abbreviation appears in a job ad for the role of Data Privacy Officer with the Judicial Office
The Judicial Office Data Privacy Officer (DPrO) will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of data protection policy, monitoring Judicial Office compliance with data protection law, and developing related policies and guidelines where applicable.
It differentiates (in a way that is not quite clear to me) between this role and that of data protection officer, stating, e.g.
consulting with the Ministry of Justice on data protection issues, and particularly being the first point of contact for the Judicial Office with the MOJ DPO;
and
The skills and expertise required for this role are similar to those required for the Data Protection Officer role defined by the GDPR.

Fr-Ca Termium gives "administrateur de la sécurité des données" for Data Protection Officer, but you could one for one DPO and the other for the second DPO

Our educational role Hmm… I appreciate your suggestion, but I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable doing that Philippe. I'd feel like I was going beyond the boundries of "translation" if I started adding information or opinions that were not in the source text.

Personally, since "Data Privacy Officer" is not the official English GDPR term and just muddies the waters, I'd be inclined to remove it entirely and just have a single entry reading "DPO: Data Protection Officer". However, Étienne's more restrained approach may be prudent.

I think they're the same thing Not a few people in France (and in Spain, for that matter) seem to think the GDPR Data Protection Officer, equivalent to the DPD, is called the Data Privacy Officer:

"La désignation d’un Délégué à la protection des données (« DPO », pour Data Privacy Officer) est une obligation pour l’ensemble des personnes publiques."

In other words, they are aware that the DPD is called the DPO in English but they think it stands for Data Privacy Officer. Or they think that Data Protection Officer and Data Privacy Officer are alternative names for the same position:

Either way, although "DPD/DPO", in the passage you've quoted, could in principle be read as referring to two different people, I'm almost certain it's intended to refer to the same person.

Merging KISS tactics. I'd merge both DPD/DPO if there's nothing else in the text that prevents from doing so. I'd just put both developed forms (protection/privacy) in the list of acronyms for DPO.

Contact avec les autorités:
En cas d’incident de sécurité et conformément aux réglementations en vigueur (loi informatique et libertés, RGPD...) le RSSI et/ou le DPO/DPD procéderons aux déclarations et plaintes prévues par la loi.

In this context, do you understand them to be one and the same or two different functions ? I can kind of read it either way...

I was about to make the same point Délégué à la Protection des Données is the official GDPR term in French, equivalent to Data Protection Officer.

But Data Privacy Officer is generally another name for Data Protection Officer:

"The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will be enforced starting on May 25, 2018. One of the requirements of the GDPR is that many companies who handle personal data of EU citizens will need to appoint either an employee or contractor to be their Data Protection Officer.
This role is sometimes mistitled as Data Privacy Officer. The authors of the GDPR consciously call it a data protection regulation and call its champion a data protection officer to emphasize that confidentiality and integrity of personal data are just as important to data privacy as receiving consent to collect that personal data in the first place."

Could it be one and the same? Are you sure "DPD" and "DPO" in the source text are different roles?
Just in case the text was written collectively, one author using DPD, the other DPO and mixing up data privacy/data protection... A scenario that I have experienced with another EN/FR pair of acronyms in the same text.
