"In 1639, the "Nu-Pieds" (naked feet) revolt with Jean Quetil. Richelieu wanted to impose on the people of the region who were living on the riches coming from their salt works a tax on salt (the gabelle) at the expense of the "quart-bouillon" privileges (system which allowed the king to withhold a quarter of the production of salt)."
