A series of blister cavities is sometimes called a blister card or blister strip as well as blister pack. In some parts of the world the blister pack is known as a Push-Through-Pack (PTP).

Blister packaging is an inexpensive option for creating packages that are durable, transparent, and tamper proof. These clear plastic blister packs are used in conjunction with a cardboard blister card to keep the product in full view for the customer to examine.

The blister packaging is attached to the blister card through a heat-sealing process that allows the product to be displayed in a wide variety of methods. While this heat sealing process can be done with highly automated equipment, the use of blister packs is somewhat limited to light weight items. For heavier items, one should consider using plastic clamshells.

National Plastics will work with you to design the blister packaging that works best for your application. We make a variety of shapes and can custom design a blister pack that will showcase your product in the best possible manner.

Blister Cards

Since blister packaging is only complete with the blister card that goes with it, National Plastics has teamed up with Optic Visuals to offer a complete packaging design service.

The inline sealer also provides online printing of text or lot codes on blister cards. Not only can ultraviolet invisible codes be printed on blister cards, but other equipment is available that can also print UV codes onto blister strips and bottles. Black lights are installed in all of these operations to read the UV-printed codes. The online printing on the card sealer also allows for basic directions to be printed on the card if necessary.

The hydraulic press can seal and cut preformed blister units, blister cards and trays. The machine can be used to support adaptive clinical trials, and to cut blister strips or hospital units into various formats so that they can be reconfigured in a blister card to support different dosing regimens.
