Comment: "Thanks for the replies. Basically, they all seem to be completely correct. There has been a little doubt whether "next day" should be interpreted very literally as "by the end of the next day". According to the comments, this should be the case. So I have chosen this reply which seems to specify the literal interpretation most precisely. "
