Proximity Meter

English Tech/Engineering Electronics / Elect Eng Voltage testing
Proximity Meters are to be used for general detection of electricity, but cannot be used for specific voltage measurement, like when performing a 3-point check.

Could anybody kindly help explain what is it and what it is for? I would very much appreciate.

It refers to devices which detect the presence of cables by virtue of the induction of currents from the cable into the device, but which cannot actually 'measure' the voltage, since that would require a precise knowledge of the dielectric characteristics of the intervening medium, etc.

Note that although the source text term is "Proximity Meter", the same source text refers only to "general detection of electricity".
