En un texto sobre la sociedad celta,me he encontrado con este término que no sé cómo traducir.
He buscado en la RAE lo que significa el prefijo "proto". Pero la palabra protoestado no existe.
¿Se os ocurre alguna forma de traducir esta palabra?

Aparecen muchas referencias explicando el significado del término.
Un Aparte antes de enfilar las sabanas el concepto de "protocelta" como el de "protogermano", o "protolatino" me parecen bastante poco acceptable aplicado a etnias. Hablar de "proto-algos" suele ser bastante celta cuando se utiliza para una entidad reconstruida como-y a la que por tanto no le hay que suponer una entidad estrictamente literal en la realidad "proto-historica", como sucede cuando desde la lingüística se habla de protoindoeuropeo para referirse a la lengua reconstruida teoricamente a partir de lo unico que en realidad tenemos a nuestro alcance las lenguas particulares IEs (acepción 1).
Por otro lado existe el uso de proto- como protohistorico, que se nos refiere a un periodo que esta a medio camino entre lo historico (con sus fuentes literarias) y lo prehistorico (sin ningun tipo de fuente directa, indirecta o aproximativa a la vista) (acepción 2).
