Estimados,

Estoy traduciendo un documento relacionado con el software MOSAIQ.
En una lista de verificación aparece en término "couch".
Aquí copio los títulos de tal lista de verificación.

Couch Vertical
Couch Lateral
Couch Longitudinal
Couch Angle
Couch Pitch
Couch Roll

Además, copio dos enlaces que encontré que tienen relación con este software en los cuales también aparece el término en cuestión.

Hello Gabriela,

You ask about the translation of “Couch Pitch / Couch Roll” in the context of Tech/Engineering and Computers linked with the software MOSAIQ.

And you offer as referential context a list of terms related to your question: “Couch Vertical, Couch Lateral, Couch Longitudinal, Couch Angle, Couch Pitch, Couch Roll.”

ANALYSIS

Through my research, I learned that the terms that you would like to translate are included in the chapter of medical engineering known under the label of: “Robotic Couch” or “Robocouch”.

Before we continue with the analysis, I would like to share with you a fragment of document posted in Internet with the title of:
“Patient positioning in the proton radiotherapy era” From: Journal of Experimental & Clinical Cancer Research ( IEEE document)
URL: http://www.jeccr.com/content/29/1/47
“Patient positioning systems
In modern X-ray radiotherapy, patients can be positioned in the treatment room by automatic couches with 6 degrees of freedom (i.e. allowing translation and rotations). In isocentric gantry treatment rooms, the combination of gantry and couch movement provides greater flexibility in delivering multiple beams, from different directions, to optimize the dose distribution. Recently, robots have been introduced into particle therapy applications to be used for holding and positioning imaging systems or to replace traditional patient couches. Accuracy and reproducibility of these devices are very important in their design and development.”

VERY IMPORTANT! The previous paragraph shows us that the “robotic couch” includes a “patient positioning system” that makes possible a safe radiotherapy session without risks for the patient and the professional in charge of the therapy.

It also says that the automatic couches have 6 degrees of freedom that allow translation (traslado, movimiento de A a B) and rotation (rotación. movimiento alrededor de un eje).

From the previous explanation, now we know that the automatic “couch” is controlled by a special system (a computerized system).

The term “couch” has different translations to Spanish depending to the context. In this case, we think the best translation is “camilla”.

Please see how Collins English Spanish English Dictionary translates: “couch:
1) sofá masculine
2) (medicine) (in doctor's surgery) camilla feminine
3) (psychiatrist's) diván masculine”
URL: http://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english-spanish/...

After the previous analysis, now we know that the robotic couch (In Spanish: “camilla robótica”) includes all the functions that you mention in your context: “Couch Vertical, Couch Lateral, Couch Longitudinal, Couch Angle, Couch Pitch, Couch Roll.” (These are the 6 degrees of freedom (in Spanish: “6 libertades de movimiento”) offered for the most advanced systems. Other systems only offer 5 degrees of freedom ).

Returning to your point, you ask for the translation of: “Couch Pitch” and “Couch Roll”.

In robotics, the movements are similar to the basic nautical movements. In other words, the different movements of the “robotic couch” are similar to the movements of the ship.

By the way, in the nautical disciplines, we translate the term “pitch” like “cabecear”, “cabeceo”. And the term “roll” is translated like “balanceo”.

Franklin “Spanish Master” and Collins Bilingual Dictionary agree with the previous translations.

My proposal:

- cabeceo de la camilla (robótica) / balanceo de la camilla (robótica)

I hope this analysis helps you in your work.

Regards

Domingo

movimiento de inclinación/cabeceo de la mesa de tratamiento y mov. de balanceo de la mesa

Son movimientos de oscilación o de rotación de la mesa:

- pitch_movimiento de inclinación/cabeceo (de arriba a abajo)
- roll_ movimiento de balanceo
- yaw_guiñada

Se trata de los diferentes movimientos de la mesa de tratamiento/de terapia en la que se coloca al paciente para recibir el tratamiento.

"Pitch, yaw and roll.

Generally, those terms are used to describe the movements measured in angles of an airplane or spacecraft in flight. Pitch is up and down like a box lid; yaw is left and right like a door on hinges; and roll is rotation.

Yet those terms are also common today at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, which completed installation in May of a Novalis Tx™ system, a powerful image-guided radiosurgery program with a patient couch that pitches, yaws and rolls. The system – a linear accelerator and then some – offers noninvasive treatment for a wide range of malignancies and other conditions, offering precision that helps spare healthy tissue from radiation exposure."
