English to Serbian Other Poetry & Literature
i have recently started learning Serbian and i am attempting a poem in the language. I am familiar with direct translations but still working on colloquial language and concepts. i am searching for both a straight translation in Serbian of this phrase and also more poetic, romantic, or unique translations of the phrase. Hvala, lepo.

Since this is obviously NOT an English -> English question I have changed the language pair for you: English -> Serbian.

U tebe se zaljubih

Direct translation is trickier than a poetic one since present perfect can be translated into Serbian as simple past or simple present, depending on the context, therefore:
"Zaljubila sam se u tebe" or "Zaljubljena sam u tebe" (past and present respectively, if the speaker is a woman, or "Zaljubio sam se u tebe" or "Zaljubljen sam se u tebe" if the speaker is a man).

A poetic version is clearer, since this aspect in Serbian (called aorist) is the closest equivalent to the English present perfect - both refer to unfinished past. (Aorist is no longer used in everyday communication. It is now reserved for poetic language only). So:
"Zaljubih se u tebe" (the speaker is either a man or a woman), or
"U tebe se zaljubih" (a simple chage in word order, convenient if you want the lines to rhyme).

Ups, I've made a mistake there. So, if the speaker is a man, direct translation is "Zaljubio sam se u tebe" or "Zaljubljen sam u tebe". Sorry.
