With a general decline in membership, trade unions are making a priority of recruitment and retention. It has also moved up EPSU’s agenda and was addressed at last year’s Congress. We have discussed the issue at several constituency meetings as well as seminars. As a concrete follo-up we are now proposing to run a pilot project next year on recruitment and organising in Central and Eastern Europe. The aim will be to use the knowledge and expertise of a colleague from the XXX confederation, mr YYY, who will be available to work directly with affiliates to consider the future of the union (strategic planning/ scenarios), to train staff and help plan recruitment and/or organising initiatives.
