O termo que estou em dúvidas é mummified encontrado no livro "There is no me without you" de Melissa Greene. Não sei se o termo quer dizer uma viuva conservada ou se mummified refere-se a uma pessoa que não gosta de gente falando em cinemas, no caso, como não estão no cinema e sim numa sala comunitária, não gosta de pessoas falando. Se for possível aplicar este ultimo caso, como diriamos em portugues? A estória se passa na Etiópia.

Her dark, pendulous skin and droopy eyes were pulled up and back by a head scarf, giving her an expression of alarmed disapproval. I didn’t know if she was frowning against the upward yank of her face or because she had been stuck with me. Over the long hours, we became reluctant familiars, like strangers on an all-night bus trip. We secretly shoved each other over disputed millimeters of territory, but faced forward politely.

Creio que o termo "mummified" se refere ao fato de a velha senhora estar sentada imóvel ao seu lado.

A explicacação da Ana Catarina também procede. "Mumificada" também pode se referir à aparência enrugada e ressequida da senhora.
