If "ad hominem" is "arguing against the other person", rather than his/her ideas.
e.g. "No wonder you believe in evolution; you look like an ape".
.....then, what's the opposite?
i.e. arguing "on topic", i.e. correctly addressing the issue and NOT the person.
"ad.....rem"?
Many thanks.
andy.

ad rem
Yes, 'ad rem' is the oppostie of 'ad hominem', i.e., 'pertinent, not evasive, to the point'.

Lit., \'to the thing (at issue)\'. \'To the point\' is perhaps the closest literal translation in Englsih. But \'ad rem\' is certainly the opposite of \'ad hominem\' in the parlance of logicians.

ad Logos
Not sure of the what should go before, but Logos for sure.
Some other false arguments would be
Appeal to authority" or "argumentum ab auctoritate”
perhaps an "appeal to modesty / ad verecundiam", in so far as it is conducive to accepting the opinions of one’s betters
