At five to twenty-five cents an issue, pulp fiction was a literature accessible to Americans at every income level—often sold at newsstands and drugstores. パルプ小説ってのは、いわゆるパルプ雑誌に載ってるような小説のことを指す。パルプ雑誌ってのは、その名の通りパルプ紙（安っぽいざら紙）でできてる雑誌で、安いのがウリの読み捨ての本、てのが一般的な見方だろう。英和辞書によれば『（米俗）「低級雑誌」「安本」「扇情的な小説」』なんて書いてある位だから、「三文小説」とか、まあそんな小説だと思ってくれ (Pulp Heroesで遊ぼう！Dungeon誌#90�)
