OK fair enough. but these crumbs are they also called chips ?
It is often used as a flavour for items such as dessert sauce, pudding, and biscuits (cookies). To that end, it can be bought in "butterscotch chips", made with hydrogenated (solid) fats so as to be similar for baking use to chocolate chips. There are also individually wrapped, translucent sometimes yellow colored hard candies with an artificial butterscotch flavour, which is dissimilar to actual butterscotch.

Nooo! It is quite clearly about biscuits made with crumbs of butterscotch!! I do not know what to call it in Italian, but as a butterscotch-eating, biscuit-loving native (British) English speaker, this is definitely what I would be expecting from the description.

Sinceramente non credo che sia la ricetta per i biscotti ma una ricetta fatto CON i biscotti sbricciolati o una specie di crumble

Sorry dopo un po' ho fatto caso alla 'piccola' differenza tra caramelle e caramello. Qui si sta parlando di biscotti, nn di caramelle! Che esistono anche 'butterscotch'. E vi aiguro a tutti una bellissima serata:-))

NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Butterscotch Flavored Morsels The trademark here is TOLL HOUSE®, not butterscotch. Butterscotch sweets are made by numerous companies. Callard & Bowser were my favourite as a kid. Sadly, I have just seen that they are now part of Suchard and have ceased production of all lines for the UK market... :-((

Definitely not! "Butterscotch" is certainly not a trademark. It is a common generic term for a type of confectionery. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butterscotch

Il butterscotch è praticamente come il toffee, parola che in italiano è abbastanza comune

scaglie di caramelle colate al burro

Anche se pare che la tecnica di produzione della butterscotch sia tale da conferirgli il nome, credo che si debba far riferimento alla caramella colata, che in italia direi si trova più alla panna (e forse si potrebbe anche chiamare così, altrimenti tanto vale lasciare il nome inglese perchè bisogna andare a cercarle a Londra), come risulta dalla lettura dei due testi che seguono, in cui la alpenliebe vengono paragonate alle Werther’s Original.

Comunque per me sono caramelle dure, quindi direi scaglie, frammenti, schegge, forse nominerei anche cristalli, ma non sono sicura sulla chimica delle caramelle. In alternativa, qualcuno le chiama gusto burro inglese...
