I am translating an artist Manifesto written in 1980 by an American cartoonist.
It's against the bohemian-style art in favour of a collaboration between art and the capitalist society.
All the whole text is quite obscure, I don't want to explain, I just need to understand this expression in order to give the best possibile translation.
One of the item state:
A deadly texture and tone have taken the cereal Nirvana: a misanthrope born of capital realities, tendencies, and inter-office memos. Sightless businessmen-posed-entertainers shovel up tons of soulless Saturday morning animation. Would that you could make cost effective the rubbery genius that was the Saturday morning of our youth.
I think it refers to cartoons by I suspect I am missing some cultural reference.

Da una mia ricerca non esistono artisti di cartoni animati con quel nome.
Io ipotizzo per un senso figurativo, dato che nella frase precedente "soulless animation" significa "animazione senz'anima", e si parla di uomini d'affari che probabilmente portano noia e non allegria.

"il genio gommoso che era il sabato mattina della nostra giovinezza."

| Grazie molte per le tue osservazioni. Quello che non capisco è l'aggettivo gommoso. I cartoni animati a cui fa riferimento, soprattutto Hanna&Barbera non hanno protagonisti gommosi. Pensavo si riferisse a uno specifico personaggio. |

Credo che potrebbe essere un mix tra, come ha detto Elena Feriani, lo stile rubber hose e, come lascio allegato qui sotto, i tipici personaggi comici che sono il frutto dell'estremizzare la vita borghese del capitalismo, come per esempio Mister Bean.
Di fatto, nello stile rubber hose ci si riferisce al "hose", che è un tubo e quindi avrebbe senso definirlo come viscoso, e per quanto riguarda quel genere di comicità si potrebbe definire viscoso in quanto caotico.

| Il contesto però non è quello degli anni venti. L'autore scrive nel 1980 e la sua infanzia è stata vissuta negli anni sessanta-settanta, in cui se guardi i palinsesti delle TV americane, andavano per la maggiore i cartoni di H&B che non mi sembra possano rientrare nella tua analisi. Grazie |
