I think it is much more likely that it is supposed to mean:
neither employment nor co-operation/collaboration with
Therefore I would restructure the sentence and use two different verbs.

Ich denke, hier wird unterschieden, ob der Mitarbeiter später *bei* diesem (möglicherweise konkurrierenden) anderen Unternehmen angestellt ist, oder z. B. als freier Mitarbeiter/Selbstständiger *für* dieses tätig wird.
