Discussion

Earle Self Apr 26, 2010:
I think "klarer Fall" does answer. But, yes, I was trying to see if there were a slang term which equated to "no brainer." I don't think one exists. "kinderleicht"wold translate into English as "child's play."

The context is that my daughter lives in Stuttgart. The cardiologist who treats her son said that a heart procedure should be done in the US, because it's very seldom done in Germany. He was speaking English at the time and came up with the statement that the choice was a "no-brainer." "Klarer Fall" fits. What had occurred to me was "klare Wahl." "Wahl" because there really is a choice, even if one path is clearly superior...

klarer Fall

no-brainer
Informal: Something so simple or easy as to require no thought.
Slang: something which requires little or no mental effort

I guess what you are looking for is a colloquial expression in German. However, it is quite difficult to translate such an expression if you do not give us any context...

"klarer Fall" could be used for example if somebody asks you a simple question and you say "Das ist ein klarer Fall", i.e. the answer is obvious. I do not know if that fits your case. Therefore, please provide some more information.

"Kinderleicht" is another expression that might fit.
