vin doux (naturel)
I'm smack bang in the middle of it (I live among the vineyards of St Emilion), and the kind of fortified wine that you drink for aperitif (here it tends to be muscat/pineau), is usually referred to as "vin doux (naturel)"

I tend to agree with Marie-Christine - I have friends who are wine producers and they do not refer to 'vin fortifié'.
I would definitely either go with 'vin muté' or 'vin doux' - vin muté is possibly more technical, whereas vin doux is a term that all French people will identify with. It would depend on what your text is to be used for.

I know you have closed this question, but another possibility that a friend just suggested, and which didn't immediately occur to me but which is also a possibility, is 'vin cuit'. Vin doux is often quite sweet, whereas a 'vin cuit' may be less so... just in case it's of use...!
