Sep 16, 2010 15:02: Stéphanie Soudais changed "Level" from "Non-PRO" to "PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (3): FX Fraipont (X), Tony M, Stéphanie Soudais

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

FX Fraipont (X) Sep 13, 2010:
@Tony I suppose you meant @me.
I know, but it makes sense - see the following video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4B0eSHiIzM

"feedback" is appropriate because without NFS, all "steering loads are transmitted to the steering wheel" - with this system, there is no feedback, AND the wheel does not come back to its central position.

Zodial call it "kit direction anti-retour"
Tony M Sep 13, 2010:
@ F-X No, I'm sorry, although there is a lot of technical sense in what you say, the simple fact is that 'feedback' in EN could never mean 'return', in the sense of return to a central [neutral] position — the word just isn't used that way in EN.

Hence why it is vital for us to have more of the context to work from...
FX Fraipont (X) Sep 13, 2010:
feedback =/= force feedback ça veut dire ici que si on lâche le gouvernail il ne revient pas à la position centrale. Il s'agit bien d'un système de barre asservie, puisqu'il y a une commande à distance.

Johannes Gleim Sep 13, 2010:
feedback has to be avoided and replaced by "rétroaction", see Termium
Tony M Sep 13, 2010:
Context How is the term actually being used?

Is this, for example, describing a fualt condition... or a complaint from a user about a shortcoming...? Or is it in some way supposed to be a positive feature...?

Please give a bit more of the surrounding context, as this will almost certainly affect the way it needs to be translated.
meirs Sep 13, 2010:
feedback Is the correct term - in means back indication (of the rudder actual position I guess in this case)

English term (edited): no feed-back

retour de force

As I have highlighted in the discussion box above, it's really important to know how this expression is being used in the source text.

If as I suspect it means that there is no 'feel' to the stereing wheel — you don't 'feel' the steering action properly, then maybe 'retour de force' is the term required — it's certainly used in things like video games that involve driving, where you get (simulated!) feedback to the steering wheel etc.

rétroaction

rétroaction feedback (rétroaction, bouclages, retour d'information, oscillation par effets de bouclage), regenerative feedback (rétroaction). Consider also: feed back (rebouclages, bouclages, rétroaction divergente), acoustic feedback (réaction acoustique, oscillation acoustique, accrochage).

neutral FX Fraipont (X) : non, ce n'est pas de rétroaction qu'il s'agit ici, mais d'absence de retour à la position centrale.

Sans plus de contexte, c'est pénible de déterminer la nature de "feedback" et de voter.
