Religion - Hinduism
(Sentence containing "shrine" is near the end of the text)
The Festival of Rama Navami is the Hindu celebration of the Birthday of Rama. Held this year on April 30,
alternatively eight days after Yugandi, or on the ninth day of the bright half month of Chaitria. The Ramanrami Vrata
is vitya (compulsory) for the devotees of Rama and optional for other. Vrata commences from the previous night with
fasting. On Navami day the votary has to continue fasting, perform worship to Rama in an image installed in a
prepared shrine and do Japa (repeated recitation) of Ramamantra and keep vigil in the night.
A shrine in this context is a kind of altar, but "altar" in the context of Hinduism is not appropriate. The dictionaries give "lieu saint", but this is - as I understand it - more appropriate to describe places such as Santiago de Compostela, Knock, Ballinspittle, Lourdes, Mecca, etc.

Comment: "Merci beaucoup. Je suis catholique, éduqué en Irlande (où l'on enseigne pas les autres religions, malheureusement)."
