English term

trans-torque

English to French Tech/Engineering Mechanics / Mech Engineering
example is taken from a step-by-step process :
1) Loosen all (4) trans-torque bolts.

... a few steps...

6) Line up the pulley with stationary gear, and tighten trans-torque.

I don't have any more context for this

Discussion

Non-ProZ.com May 29, 2005:
Not automobile-related. I made some research myself, and all I found were automobile-related reference. However, I am translating the manual of industrial-type machinery. Nowhere does it mention the machine has any kind of transmission.

I am enclined to agree about the bad translation because the manual itself has not been very well written.

Bad original translation

Makes no sense, unless it's short for "Transmission torque-converter".

neutral roseh (X) : I don't think it's a bad translation - when I googled "trans torque" I found lots of references, and it does appear to be short for "Automatic Transmission, Torque Converter". English quite often shortens terms in this manner, especially verbally.

It apears to be a short form for "automatic transmission torque converter": see website: "If you've read about manual transmissions, you know that an engine is connected to a transmission by way of a clutch. Without this connection, a car would not be able to come to a complete stop without killing the engine. But cars with an automatic transmission have no clutch that disconnects the transmission from the engine. Instead, they use an amazing device called a torque converter. It may not look like much, but there are some very interesting things going on inside. "

Torque converter translates as "convertisseur de couple".
I have no idea whether my translation of the whole term can be shortened in French like it is in English.
I hope this is of some assistance.

I do apologize. It's not a field of expertise for me. I just assumed that if all the references were automotive, then it had to be automotive. You know what they say -- "Never assume!" Sorry
