Since wealth is constantly growing, particularly among the high end of society, combined with a limited supply of classical/antique art, it can be concluded that art prices in this segment will most definitely increase.

However, nearly everyone, from the art expert to the financial adviser agree and emphasize that "investment for the sake of price appreciation" should not be the sole reason to buy art. A large number of studies have reached a clear conclusion:

from a purely financial point of view it is not worth investing in art. If one gains pleasure from the art one buys, i.e. if one recalls what economists call a ‘consumer benefit’; it is absolutely rational to invest in art. Thus when the non-financial, aesthetic values are considered, an art collector stands to reap significant gains.
