Glossary entry (derived from question below)
English term or phrase:
put their money where everyone else’s mouths are
French translation:
investissent là où les autres se régalent
English term
put their money where everyone else’s mouths are
We want to know about the guys and girls who literally ***put their money where everyone else’s mouths are***.
Le texte parle de sportifs, retraités ou non, qui ont investit dans des restaurants. La traduction habituelle de cette expression ne convient pas, car il y a "literally", et je cherche à traduire "mouth" d'une manière ou d'une autre.
Je pensais à : "... qui mettent littéralement la main à la poche là où se trouve l'intérêt gustatif des autres".
des idées ?
merci

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.
How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:
An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)
A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).
Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.
When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.
* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

merci AM mais un peu "cash" comme traduction, cependant, on peut dire quelque chose du genre : "là où les autres vont manger". C'est une transcription je dois aller à l'essentiel. |

: Pas sûr non plus que vous soyez dans le bon registre. Un peu "gras" comme traduction, là ou le texte d'origine ne fait référence à aucun péquenot.

placent / investissent leur argent où se trouve leur bouche
Put your money where your mouth is.
Placaez votre argent où se trouve votre bouche.
qui investissent là ou les autres mangent
Dans ces cas là en général, la réponse la plus simple est souvent la meilleure :-)

: yes and no, the pun is totally lost and so it sounds a bit strange - first reaction when reading it: "so what? what's the point of saying that? why should this matter"

ah, je comprends. Ça, c'est pour les collègues francophones.
merci j'avais vu ça aussi, mais je voudrais essayer de garder l'image "gourmet" et gustatif avec "mouth" puisque le texte parle de restos |

: yes, but here it's a pun on it, a variation - not "their money their mouths but "their money other people's mouths" even more difficult to translate
