The Ohmeda 7000 and 7800 series ventilators are double‐circuit
human anesthesia ventilators with a pneumatically driven ascending/
standing bellows (Fig. 3.79). The 7000 ventilator is electronically
controlled with a preset minute volume, whereas the 7800 is electronically controlled with a preset tidal volume, which may be a
specific advantage (as discussed below).
Both ventilators can be fitted with either an adult or a pediatric
bellows, and they have been used extensively in human anesthesia
[1, 75]. These ventilators are available used and are readily applicable to small animal anesthesia. The scale on the bellows housing
ranges from 100 to 1600 mL on the adult bellows and from 0 to
300 mL on the pediatric bellows. The bellows assembly exhaust port
is 19 mm O.D., the connection to the anesthesia machine is 22 mm,
and there is a high‐pressure (50 psi) diameter index safety system
(DISS) fitting for an oxygen line for the driving‐gas circuit.
